Journey through Xanax
January 25, 2024 by Nikki and Anne Heart ♥ Nikki’s Story: Journey through Xanax
This week we continue our journey through Nikki’s healthcare treatment discussing the prescription drug, Xanax. Even though this journey lasted a very short time, the knowledge we provide you is significant to your wellness journey.
Although we wrote this post together, we have chosen to present the following journey through Nikki’s eyes.
Nikki’s Story:
Journey through Xanax
It was at the end of 2014 my current healthcare provider prescribed Xanax, a controlled substance.
Honestly, I don’t remember the exact reason why, but I do know that my overall wellness was deteriorating both physically and mentally.
My healthcare treatment program consisted of replacing one drug with another as well as changing dosages of the two drugs I was continuously prescribed. But nothing made the pain go away.
At this point in my life, I considered myself to be an alcoholic, and I stopped drinking November of 2014. One month before being prescribed Xanax.
A .25 mg Xanax pill was prescribed with the instructions to cut a small piece from it and take it as needed.
Xanax gave me an extreme high when I took it. But when it wore off, it worsened my depression to the point it made me more depressed than I ever was.
Because of my reaction, I rarely took Xanax.
The alternative treatment plan by my healthcare provider was to increase the dosage of one of my existing drugs. A drug I was consistently advised to increase, but due to severe negative reactions was never able to.
By January 2015, I switced to another psychiatrist and stopped taking Xanax altogether.
Even though I couldn’t think clearly, concentrate, and most of the time I couldn’t see the whole picture, I knew in my gut something was wrong.
Time and time again, I questioned things but I was always given the same reason “I was just very sensitive.”
The unfortunate thing was, no one ever looked at why.
- Why was I so sensitive to the drugs prescribed?
- Was my diagnosis wrong?
- Did I have sensitivities to the ingredients in the drugs?
Knowledge is key to your wellness.
The following are some tips I have learned that are important to achieving the knowledge you need:
TIP Number 1: Analyze yourself before taking a prescription drug
- Are you sensitive to any food?
- Can you take medication without any negative effects?
- Do you have skin reactions?
TIP Number 2: Research your symptoms
- Are you having any symptoms that can be related to thyroid disease?
- Have you had a complete physical with appropriate testing to rule out any pre-existing conditions?
- Have you been tested recently for allergic reactions you have had with other things?
TIP Number 3: Be aware of any interactions you may have
- Do you have any conditions that may interreact with the prescribed drug, such as asthma?
- Are you an alcoholic or addicted to anything that may cause an addiction if you take a controlled substance?
- When taking a prescription drug, do you experience an extreme high?
