Nikki's Story:

Journey through Life

June 9, 2023 by Nikki and Anne Heart

Although we wrote this post together, we have chosen to present the following story through Nikki’s experience.

TAKING CHARGE

After seven years, nineteen drugs, two supplements, four doctors, one nurse practioner, and all the false hope I was given, I decided to take charge of my own life.

FIRST STEP

I started by analyzing my true self. To determine what was actually going on and what I needed to do for my wellbeing.

I recognized the treatment plan I was receiving wasn’t working. That both my mind and body were deteriorating and no relief for my pain was obtainable.

Most importantly, I became self-aware of what I needed to survive.

SECOND STEP

After careful consideration and planning, I began my withdrawal in 2016 from prescription medication — drugs.

This was far from an easy step to take, but I knew it was the right step for me to take charge of my life.

THIRD STEP

With a support system in place, it took me over a year to stop my last three prescription drugs.

My initial withdrawals were far from easy. I might be contradicted by the professionals, but to me withdrawal from a drug is no different whether it is a prescription or street drug. The reality is a drug is a drug.

JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE IN A NEW WAY

I still live my life with day-to-day challenges.

But I live my life with an accurate diagnosis:

Because of these diagnosis, I am aware that:

  • I am a person who has extreme sensitivities to foods, drinks, medications, smells, and the environment
NOW I CAN TAKE CHARGE
  1. By learning what foods I can and can’t eat
  2. By becoming self-aware of my triggers
  3. By trying to openly discuss my feelings
  4. By knowing I don’t need to be fixed

YOU CAN TAKE CHARGE

  • Acquire an accurate diagnosis
  • Develop an appropriate treatment plan
  • Learn self-care techniques
  • Realize your wellbeing is a life long commitment

KEEP IN MIND

  1. Diet plays an important role in your wellbeing physically and mentally
  2. Never give up hope even if at times there seems to be none
  3. Keep learning about new techniques and new treatments for you
  4. If you choose a medication treatment plan, research the medication(s) https://fda.gov/
  5. It’s okay to question!
