Mom's Story:

Journey to Wellness (Part 1)

June 23, 2023 by Nikki and Anne Heart

Although we wrote this post together, we have chosen to present the following story through Mom’s experience.

How to find Wellness

With years of watching my daughter, Nikki, struggle with unsuccessful medication treatment plans, hope for wellness often lead to discouragement.

Years went by with continuous broken promises by my daughter’s health care providers.

It became very difficult to hear over and over again, “Don’t worry your daughter is an easy fix”.

Each professional insisting the right “cocktail” of medication needs to be found to provide the help Nikki needed.

Years went by and no one ever found that right “cocktail” and Nikki never found the relief from the pain she hoped for.

Taking the professional advice that was given to us, lead to years of unwellness for Nikki.

And sadly, years lost forever by physical and mental debiliation.

I knew how hard Nikki worked to feel better. Witnessing her struggles was very difficult.

I tried to reassure her everyday things would get better and that we will find the help she needed.

But the reality was I didn’t know what to do to help nor did I know where to turn to get the correct help she desperately needed.

I agreed with my daughter that the prescribed drugs were not the correct treatment for her, but didn’t know what was.

Nikki took it upon herself to become self-aware, analyzing herself in every aspect to figure out what was going on within her.

The first step we realized was to get a correct diagnosis which was not easy to say the least.

It took a while after Nikki withdrew from the drugs to obtain an accurate diagnosis ofhttps://www.thyroid.org/graves-disease/ Graves disease.

And sometime after that to be diagnosed with a glutamate problem which requires my daughter to be on a strict diet.

Instead of a treatment plan consisting of drugs, Nikki relies on self-awareness for her wellness.

A controlled, organic diet is a main focus of my daughter’s wellbeing.

Limiting preservatives, chemicals, sugar, artificial ingredients, etc. has proven to help Nikki both physically and mentally.

Over the years, my daughter has realized that skin products, laundry detergents and basically anything that can be absorbed into the skin plays a role in her overall wellbeing.

Self-awareness and knowledge has proven to be the key to a correct wellness path for my daughter and our family.

As a parent who has lived through years of my daughter improperly drugged, I have learned that knowing yourself and everything about your wellness plan is most important to a healthier life.

Looking at the overall picture of yourself, leads to the best treatment plan for you.

Whether it consists of medication or not, should be determined individually.

It is important to realize a person is not something to be fixed but someone who may need assistance.

Taking a Holistic Approach

Deciding whether to follow a protocol drug treatment plan or not, should not be an easy decision to make.

Through years of experience, I believe that a holistic approach should be taken in all treatment plans.

A holistic approach means every aspect of an individual is taken into consideration in the quest for optimal health and wellness.

In Part 2 of Journey to Wellness, I will be discussing a holistic approach in further detail.

I will be including techniques Nikki and I have used over the years to assist us in our overall wellbeing.

Techniques which helped during the withdrawal stages of Nikki’s life.

As well as simple steps to help you get through some challenging moments.

Living a healthier and happier lifestyle is not always easy and a life-long commitment.

But you are worth it!
