Let’s take a minute to understand mental health.
Mental health controls how we think, feel and basically live. And at times, it can cause physical pain that no one seems to understand.
Unfortunately, when discussing mental health, many still don’t acknowledge mental health illnesses.
Illnesses that are real such as depression, anxiety, and stress.
Many still feel it is in the person’s head. That it is something that can easily be brushed off.
Also regrettably, health care providers sometimes treat a patient differently with a mental health illness diagnosis.
With this said, sadly the stigma of mental health illness is still very real.
Awareness of mental health matters
Being on social media, has brought a new awareness to me regarding mental health.
Of course, I had an awareness prior. But listening to others tell their stories confirms my beliefs that mental health still isn’t taken seriously enough.
The treatment plans are still not being individualized. Quick fixes are still being offered as the go to treatment.
Yes, the health care system is acknowledging more that mental health does matter. However, the acknowledgement to how debilitating mental health can be, still isn’t recognized as it should be.
