Mom's Story: Journey to Wellness (Part 1)

Finding Wellness

For years, I watched my daughter Nikki struggle with ineffective medication treatment plans. What started as hope for her wellness often spiraled into discouragement.

Time and time again, her healthcare providers failed to deliver on their promises.

It became agonizing to hear repeated assurances like, “Don’t worry, your daughter is an easy fix.” Each professional insisted that the right “cocktail” of medications would solve her problems.

Yet, as the years passed, that elusive “cocktail” was never found, and Nikki’s relief from pain remained out of reach.

Following the advice of these professionals led to years of unwellness for Nikki—years lost to the toll of physical and mental debilitation.

I witnessed first hand how hard she worked to feel better, and seeing her struggle was incredibly painful. Every day, I tried to reassure her that things would improve, that we would find the help she needed. Yet, deep down, I felt helpless, unsure of how to guide her or where to turn for the right care.

Together, Nikki and I agreed that the prescribed medications weren’t the right solution for her, but we didn’t know what was.

Nikki, determined to reclaim her health, embarked on a journey of self-awareness. She scrutinized every aspect of herself to uncover what was truly wrong.

The first pivotal step was obtaining an accurate diagnosis—a task that proved far from easy.

It wasn’t until Nikki stopped the medications that she was correctly diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

Later, she discovered she had a glutamate sensitivity, which required her to adhere to a strict diet.

Instead of relying on drugs, Nikki turned to self-awareness to manage her wellness.

Her focus shifted to a controlled, organic diet, which became central to her well-being. By minimizing preservatives, chemicals, sugar, and artificial ingredients, Nikki has seen significant improvements in both her physical and mental health.

Over time, she also recognized that products like skin care items, laundry detergents, and anything absorbed through the skin played a crucial role in her overall well-being.

Self-awareness and knowledge has proven to be the key to a correct wellness path for my daughter and our family.

As a parent, I’ve learned a profound lesson: knowing yourself and every detail of your wellness plan is essential for a healthier life.

Viewing the full picture of who you are allows for a personalized approach to treatment, whether or not it involves medication.

Above all, I’ve come to realize that individuals aren’t problems to be “fixed.” They are people who may need assistance, compassion, awareness, and knowledge to pursue the path that is best for their unique needs.

Taking a Holistic Approach

Choosing whether to pursue a protocol drug treatment plan is never a decision to be taken lightly.

Through years of experience, I’ve come to believe that all treatment plans should embrace a holistic approach—one that considers every facet of an individual in the journey toward optimal health and wellness.

A truly holistic approach recognizes that achieving wellness requires addressing the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

Journey to Wellness Part 2

In Part 2 of Journey to Wellness, I will delve deeper into the concept of recognizing, awareness and learning.

I will also share with you some of the self-care and wellness techniques we commonly use in our home.

Achieving a healthier and happier lifestyle requires effort, and it’s often a lifelong commitment. But the goal is to stop it from being life consuming.
