Symptoms of a Drug Prescription
Mental Health ♥ Mom’s Story
Coping without Drugs
April 18, 2024 by Nikki and Anne Heart ♥ Mom’s Story: Coping without Drugs
Although we wrote this post together, we have chosen to present the following journey through Mom’s eyes.
Coping with life by itself can be challenging at times.
But watching my daughter struggle to cope with her life after prescription drugs, shows me a whole new set of challenges.
Some say that if she were to take prescription drugs again, things may be better. But I witnessed her life on a drug treatment program, and I know that is far from the truth.
Prescription drugs took away years from my daughter’s life. Precious years she needed to become an adult and to learn how to manage as well as cope with her negative thoughts.
Instead of providing help for her mental health, the drugs worsened her negative thoughts and depression and caused new problems including alcoholism and drug cravings.
I am, however, only a person looking from the outside and can only image the pain she goes through learning now how to cope with everything she currently is faced with.
Learning how to cope with life after drug withdrawal can be extremely difficult.
It poses struggles that you wouldn’t think could happen.
Like my daughter’s experience, you can still face the same problems as before drug treatment, but now even more extreme due to lack of coping skills and techniques.
Her mind on drugs never was taught a way to control and balance her negative thoughts. It was basically trained to except being high as a coping technique.
Unfortunately, my daughter is not alone with this experience.
It’s not too late to change how you cope.
Especially after you utilized prescription drugs as your treatment plan, the need to relearn how your mind thinks is extremely important.
Coping mechanisms are simple strategies that you can use in your daily life.
