Paliperidone is in a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics.
Paliperidone is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia (a mental illness that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions).

Important Safety Information
Studies have shown that older adults with dementia (a brain disorder that affects the ability to remember, think clearly, communicate, and perform daily activities and may cause changes in mood and personality) who take antipsychotics (medications for mental illness) such as paliperidone have an increased risk of death during treatment. Older adults with dementia may also have a greater chance of having a stroke or ministroke during treatment.
Paliperidone is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of behavior problems in older adults with dementia. Talk to the doctor who prescribed this medication, if you, a family member, or someone you care for has dementia and is taking paliperidone. Side effects that can be caused by Invega (Paliperidone)
dizziness, feeling unsteady, or having trouble keeping your balance
extreme tiredness
weakness
headache
dry mouth
increased saliva
weight gain
stomach pain
Some side effects of can be serious. If you experience Invega (Paliperidone) any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately.
fever
muscle pain or stiffness
falling
confusion
fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
sweating
unusual movements of your face or body that you cannot control
slow or stiff movements
restlessness
painful erection of the penis that lasts for hours
Important Warning
Invega (Palperidone) may cause:
Heart Rhythm Changes. Paliperidone may cause a rare, dangerous heart rhythm problem
Metabolism Changes. Paliperidone can cause high blood sugar levels or diabetes, high cholesterol levels, and weight gain.
Uncontrolled Movements. Paliperidone can cause some people to have movements that they cannot control called tardive dyskinesia
Low Blood Pressure Upon Standing and Falls
